Overcome Being Shy: 3 Easy Ways To Beat Shyness
By Michael Lee

It's been years since your first day in kindergarten and still you have yet to overcome being shy. Don't be upset. It's not the end of the world.

Besides, you're not the only one who has to contend with their shyness. Many of us have had to deal with sweaty palms, lumps in our throat and unstoppable stuttering on several occasions. Sooner or later, however, we all have to deal with our shyness.

This is the first step. Read on and find out how to overcome being shy.

1) Get to the bottom of things.

Perhaps it's time you review your life. Why are you shy? Did something humiliating happen to you when you were younger? Are you afraid of what other people might think? Why do you have such little faith in yourself?

These are the questions you need to ask yourself to overcome being shy. Find out the root of your timidity. That way, you can successfully nip the problem in the bud.

2) Find a role model.

One of the easiest ways to overcome being shy is to find someone to emulate. Your role model will then serve as your anchor. It can be anyone - from someone at work, at school or at home.

It can be a celebrity, a philanthropist or even a legend long passed. These people - whether you know them personally or not - gives you the courage to do things you never thought you'd do.

Role models also prevent you from doing something you'll only regret, like turning to alcohol or drugs. Liquid courage is one thing, but getting drunk won't help you overcome being shy in the slightest.

3) Develop your self esteem.

Having low self-esteem is almost always part of the shyness package. If you want to get out of your shell a little more, you need to build your own opinion of yourself.

Normally, looking at the mirror makes us enumerate all the things we dislike about ourselves. In this case, you need to start noticing the positive things more. Once you get your self-esteem off the ground, your shyness will soon disappear.

To overcome being shy, you may have to do things you don't necessarily enjoy. However, that discomfort - the feeling of not having total control - will eventually disappear. Shyness, of course, is not something that can be erased overnight; but it is something that gradually diminishes as you make progress.
