Uncreativity Could Present A Big Opportunity
By Michael Lee

So you have been told that creativity is the elixir of life, and that you must channel your creativity to surge ahead! There is no doubt about it. Creativity is a blessing, and we must all do our very best to use it to its full capacity.

But just as that is true, it is also impossible to be creative all the time. There will be some “uncreative” moments in life as well that will be challenging. But that does not mean that you have to beat yourself up when your creative thinking skills get drained.

In the wise words of Etty Hillesum, “One must also accept that one has uncreative moments. The more honestly one can accept that, the quicker these moments will pass.”

The Period of Lull.

While we all have the capacity to be creative, there are phases of lull that hit us all. These are the times when creativity goes flying out of the window, and we feel hollow and empty inside.

More often than not, the reason for this is much more deeply rooted than it comes across to be. Most of the time, we tend to take these moments lightly and just sit around wasting our time, feeling worthless inside.

This makes it difficult to concentrate on our respective work, let alone give it our best shot! So what should be done in these moments when we feel uncreative? Do we just sit around waiting for the moment to pass? Well that is what we do anyway, don’t we? But why should we do that? Haven’t we been told time and time again that wasted time never returns? Why then should we waste our precious time on this earth?

So what indeed is the solution? Here it is...

We need to do a physical and mental recharge! Yes! Just like the latest gizmos that we use 24x7, our bodies, minds and souls need to be recharged once in a while.

How to Do a Physical and Mental Recharge.

Feeling uncreative is a perfectly natural process. And the first step towards it is acceptance. Cut yourself some slack when you are feeling uncreative. This is the time to break away from the workload at hand and do something that you really enjoy.

Take a short vacation if possible. If that does not seem likely, you can always recharge by doing simple things like spending time with your family, catching up with friends or just curling up with a good book (if socialising is not up your alley).

Uncreative moments are also the time for self-introspection. Are you feeling uncreative, because you are truly exhausted or is there a bigger reason why you feel unhappy? Is it possible that the course of life that you have chosen is making you unhappy and therefore you feel like you cannot give it your best shot?

If that is the case, you must take some action about it, and take it now! Most of us spend a lion share of our lives living someone else's dream, and believe that this is what we are meant to do. But deep in our hearts, we know that our true potential lies elsewhere.

If you are doing something similar, you’ve got to jolt yourself into action, and change the course which life seems to have taken you.

Believe in yourself, and believe in your dreams. Only then will you have the courage to move ahead and achieve your goals in life. There is no alternative to this. It is completely in your hands to be happy! If happiness is what you truly seek, make yourself happy by doing what your heart desires.
